Venice Is Sinking makes songs about moving out, breaking up, moving on, and dead pets. Sorry About The Flowers is the band’s first full-length and was initially released in Spring 2006 on the One Percent Press label. Starting as a one-man band project and expanding into a five-piece two and a half years ago, Venice Is Sinking has been an Athens live fixture for some time. In 2005, the band began recording an album at Radium Recordings in bucolic Commerce, Georgia under the watchful eye of ace engineer Chris Bishop (Macha, Circulatory System). Sorry About The Flowers is the product of said sessions. The album reflects the personal upheavals that surrounded its making: the band lost a beloved practice space to gutter punks, Lawson and Troupe ended long-term relationships (and began one together), and, in the biggest blow, Troupe lost her brother. Sorry About The Flowers loosely revolves around an exploration of spatial and situational transition, the power of location, and the hopeful side of loss. Since the album’s recording, the band has gone through yet another period of “transition” as keyboard player Alex Thibadoux packed up and moved to NYC and was replaced by James Sewell. Lawson and Troupe ended their now two-year relationship as well. People have described the Venice Is Sinking "sound" as slightly dark, pretty pop music, heavy on the strings and keyboards. Reference points mentioned have included the Cure, Galaxie 500, Low, Hetch Hetchy (whom none of the band members has ever heard), Ida, Hugo Largo, and the Delgados. A well regarded live act, Venice Is Sinking have toured the east coast and the southeast extensively, playing with notable acts, such as Dark Meat, Snowden, Beirut, The Rosebuds, Phosphorescent, Asobi Seksu, The Secret Machines, VHS or Beta, Helio Sequence, Elf Power, and The Headlights. In July 2007, Venice Is Sinking signed to Tag Team Records, who\'ll be proudly releasing Sorry About The Flowers Chinaside in early 2008. Beyond brushing up on their Mandarin in anticipation of a China tour sometime in ’08, Venice Is Sinking are currently recording their sophomore effort, tentatively titled AZAR, with none other than the analogue genius that is Mr. Scott Solter (The Mountain Goats, John Vanderslice, Spoon) in rural North Carolina. “An orchestral pop gem if there ever was one.” -PopMatters “Dream pop\'s long awaited changing of the guard.” –Magnet “…an engaging and beautiful piece of slowcore.” -Under The Radar “Perfect. Absolutely 110% perfect” -Smother.net “…with its co-ed harmonies and wandering streams of dense melodies, it is the perfect soundtrack for unexpected overcast days.” -Pitchfork Media Venice Is Sinking myspace: http://www.myspace.com/veniceissinking Tag Team Records: www.tagteamrecords.com
