标题转自ISIS今年全长《In the Absence of Truth》。著名的金属资讯站metal-archives.com将ISIS归入“泥浆金属”(Sludge Metal)这个分类之下,而不是另一更为人熟知的“后金属”(Post Metal)。
如果有时间和兴趣,我会找几支“泥浆金属”的代表乐队来比对一下,不过现在的标题纯粹来源于文字资料和听感。网上对这一类别的描述是“90年代美国地下摇滚的一种,沉重,缓慢,噪音化”。ISIS的“另一面”表现在他们对传统乐风的反叛上:噪音化被旋律所中和;实质是,噪音,如果以灰野式的日系吉它噪为参照,在ISIS的中后期作品中是遁去的。缓慢则非一味放慢节奏而是整体声墙所营造的滞重感;这可能是人们将他们和厄运金属相提并论的原因。当然歌词的失去主题也不无关系。metal-archives应该也是注意到了这一特点,所以在ISIS的归类上使用了更详细的“氛围泥浆”。
真实是缺失的,泥浆对ISIS而言也不是必要的。
在自己第四张全长里ISIS削弱了此前的攻击性,变得更为内敛。这反而使他们变得更为特别。由一种新风格的开创者(例如后金属)到自己特色的深潜,这说明他们没有停留于既得之上而沾沾自喜。对音乐创作而言,这一态度是区分商品和作品的主要标准(个人认为)。ISIS有数量不菲的拥趸,在这种情况下求变而非守成是值得尊敬的。这张全长初听冗长,再听则不乏可激赏的细部。对比于分支计划红雀(Red Sparowes)每张仅靠一曲取胜的表现,ISIS无疑更胜一筹。除了封面实在不知所云。(road,2006.10.25)
