该片关注中国唯一的带枪部落，讲述其中一个苗族男孩滚拉拉的寻父及长大成人的过程。在这个苗族部落中，有很多世代相传的习俗，比如男孩到了15岁就要举行成人礼，男孩子将得到由父亲赠送的猎枪，以示摆脱青涩能够承担家庭的重任。主人公滚拉拉自小与奶奶生活，清贫的家庭也负担不起500块的制抢费。于是，他想尽一切办法，在这个私人拥有武器是非法的国度里开始了一段旅程……
