Elaine W. Ho is a Beijing-based artist whose work uses the premises and vocabulary of design in order to ask questions about how functionality and objecthood intertwine with social relationships and everyday life. She graduated in 1999 from the Art & Art History department of Rice University, and after periods spent in New York City and the Netherlands, she is now concurrently in Beijing and working towards the completion of her MA thesis work on other-ing as spatial practice at the European Graduate School (Saas-Fee, CH). Her most recent attempts include HomeShop (www.homeshop.org.cn), a storefront space located in the traditional hutong alleyways of the city. Via collaborative events and locally situated activities, research and field recordings, HomeShop seeks to develop an open platform that examines relationality as a tool both in and outside of other economic modes of production.
Elaine likes drinking coffee and tea mixed together and is a frequent contributor to www.iwishicoulddescribeittoyoubetter.net.
